The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the first comprehensive, international spirits judging ever held in the United States on an annual basis. In 2008 there were 847 entries from 63 countries. It continues to grow each year in industry stature and integrity. Judges of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition represent noted restaurants and hotels, are spirit buyers for larger liquor purveyors, or are spirit journalists for major media throughout the United States and abroad. Judging is based on a blind, consensual procedure thereby ensuring its rigor and integrity. Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals are presented to spirits receiving a consensus vote by the panel of judges for each such award level. The Double Gold Medal is reserved for those spirits that receive a unanimous vote for a Gold Medal by all judges in a panel.

This year’s SIP competition proved to be an even greater challenge for each of the 162 spirits competing for the coveted medals awarded to the consumer’s spirit of choice. The SIP Awards is the only international spirits competition leveling the playing field for established brands and newcomers alike by enlisting consumers as judges.
